Our final day in Iceland was a short day.  We had a 4 o'clock flight back to Boise and we needed to checkout of our little apartment by 11.  We decide to visit a thermal pool so Wren would be able to move around and we really wanted to check one out while we were in Iceland. We made a quick stop at one of the iconic sculptures on our way to the pool for some quick pictures.  The thermal pool was really interesting.  You are given a rubber bracelet with a little electronic or magnetic thing in it that lets you in to the locker room area and also locks and opens a locker for you.  You are required to wash with soap and without a swimsuit in the showers before entering the pool.  They had bumbo seats and high chairs in the changing and shower area so that I had a place to put Wren which worked out really good.  Once through the shower procedure, there were 7 different pools of various temperatures and depths.  One was a lap pool w...

Wren was a super good sport about all of the things we took her on while on vacation.  It seemed like we should do one thing that was something that we thought she would really enjoy so we took her to the Reykjavik petting zoo.  It was all animals that could be found in Iceland so mostly farm animals.  Iceland was a little bit like New Zealand in that it was mostly an island of birds.  Unlike New Zealand which had no mammals, Iceland had a few smaller mammals including an arctic fox.  However, this meant that most of the animals in the petting zoo were farm animals.  Wren LOVED it!  You couldn't pet the seals but they kept swimming past us and looking at Wren and making faces at her.  She loved them and the more she giggled at them, the more they came by.  She was grabbing on to the edge of the rail and shaking with happiness.  The is telling her papa CHICKENS!!!   Reindeer which are not native to Iceland but ther...

Day 5 was Jeff's adventure day.  There is a place near Reykjavik where you can go scuba diving in between the North American and the European continental plates and actually touch both sides at the same time.  The water there is glacial melt and has some of the best visibility in the world for diving.  It is also ridiculously cold so I was happy to sit this one out. While Jeff was having his adventure, Wren and I took a walking tour of Reykjavik.  Normally I don't take tours with a guide in a city but I thought I'd give this one a try.  I read a bit of the blog prior to coming to Iceland that the tour guide writes.  I found the blog helpful, informative and funny.  It is http://www.iheartreykjavik.net/. The walking tour was great.  I learned a lot about Iceland and the city of Reykjavik.  The thing that cracked me up the most was when she was talking about dating in Iceland.  Pretty much everyone in the country is related to Ingólfr ...

The goal of day 4 was to make it back to Reykjavik.  The wind was very low and it was actually rather pleasant out. On the way back we passed by the glacier lagoon again and saw a couple of huge chunks of ice out on the beach and had to stop and check it out. This ice chunk is huge! It was low tide at this point but it looked really neat with the water around it. Same piece of ice from a different angle and me for scale. This piece of ice was a little smaller but still a little taller than me.  It looked super pretty with the sun shining through the ice. This one just glowed! Yes, I'm having fun taking these pictures. One last shot and then it was time to get back to the car. One last shot of the glacier. I'm back in Boise now which makes this whole process so much easier!  Blogger is great but doesn't work so well on an ancient iPad when trying to keep a baby out of trouble in a foreign hotel, lol!  I'm happy to be able to see my pictures on a bigger screen and adding them to the blog is SOOOOO much easier.  The posts should come a little faster now.   Part of the Vatnajokoll glacier dumps in to a lagoon that then goes out to see.  This is super beautiful as the chunks of ice break off of the glacier and float out to sea.  The lagoon is beautiful and the ice chunks that get washed up on the black sand beaches are amazing.  I think I could have spent a whole week just exploring this area as it was completely stunning and as the light changed the mood of it changed to.  I was really happy the weather was a little bit more tolerable and we were able to take Wren in the Ergo Baby.  She was happy to hang out on papa and take a little nap.
