Ho Chi Mhin City / Saigon

We met up with the rest of the group over breakfast and enjoyed hearing their adventures in getting to Vietnam. Half of the group missed connecting flights due to the freezing rain in boise on thursday.

After breakfast, the group split up and scattered. Jeff and I continued to explore the city on foot. We found it to be an interesting mix of very pretty and rickety.

We had an amazing lunch of Dim Sum.  Then met back up with the group to get our bikes set up fot the start of riding tomorrow.

After the bike fit was more walking and more eating.  Time for sleep before tomorrows bike ride!


This is a flower that we saw in one of the city parks.


This is a park that is a memorial for the monk that lit himself on fire in the late 60's. Apparently it had a big impact on the treatment of Buddists in Vietnam.


This is a fairly regular sceene, electrical wire spagetti! I have no idea how it actually works.


This was the Xa Loi pagoda. Was a long walk but worth it.


There was a large french influence in this part of the world due to colonialism. This is a replica of Nortre Dame.



Awesome dinner and dessert.

Portugal Beaches

Today we headed out of Sintra and headed down south to Alegarve region.  On our way through Lisbon we noticed that the bridge is a Doppelgänger for the Golden Gate bridge, but in Lisbon, there is a giant Jeasus bonus.  Apparently it is 28 meters tall. I know, this a terrible picture of both the bridge and Giant Jesus but you need to trust me on this one and look it up if you are curious.  We stopped Cabo Sardao which is a lighthouse. Behind the lighthouse are 300-ish foot cliffs with crashing waves and beautiful blue green water.  Here are a couple of pictures.  We only checked out 2 bays but I think there were more.  Not the safest place to hang with a toddler so Jeff and I took turns and we can only hang so long.  It was a beautiful and worth while stop.    From there we went to Aljezure in the Alegarve area of Protugal.  It is known for fantastic beaches and were we are staying tonight.  Wren got her first e...

Iceland day 2!

Day 2 started with a beautiful sunrise. The b&b we were staying at had horses that we could pet.  Many people have these stocky, shaggy horses.  They are mostly uses for "hobby and tourists" but the also have various horseman competitions and the are sometimes used for farm work to get around or help heard sheep or cattle.  The agriculture is pretty much grass to feed the sheep and cows in the winter.  It seems like they bring the sheep and cows into barns durring the worst of the weather in winter.  In summer the sheep are left to roam free all over Iceland and "everything it covered in sheep".  The sheep outnumber the people by quite a bit.  At the end of summer everyone helps gather up all the sheep and then they are sorted and returned to their owners based on their ear tags.   After saying hello to the horses we set off to see waterfalls. Ahhhh... Time for a little relaxation!

Yesterday we had a pleasant morning in Porto Notalles.  It started pooring rain which made me so glad that we had such good weather for out trip.   We got some fancy hot chocolates, second time to this shop.  We went once befoe the hike, it was so good, we went back. We took a bus to Puntas Arenas and flew to Santiago.  By the time we got the rental car, made a few u-turns and found the hotel it was pretty late.  We had dinner around standard Chilean time for once which was about midnight. After sleeping in, we did a little exploring in Santiago, picked up a couple souvenirs for friends and family and drove to Santa Cruz (yep, there is one in Chile and a San Francisco too!).  We are in the Colchagua valley which makes great red wine.  We had an amazing dinner (and wine) and are ready to call it a night...
