Porto Portugal - day 3

Wren slept through the night so I got up and went for a run again this morning.  It was a beautiful morning and it was really nice to get out before the crowds.  There are definitely more today and Saturday than there was on Friday.

I started along the river going the opposite direction this time (inland).  I did a little out and back by the other 5 bridges that Porto is known for, the 6th bridge I have a picture of on the first post.  I saw a lot of cyclists and other runners out but very few cars or tourists.

Maybe that's too many bridge pictures, but I had a hard time choosing a favorite and Jeff liked a different one than me.  I then ran up a LOT of stairs to get back to the top of the town.  The lighting was great so I took another roof top picture.

I then headed over towards the 18-th century part of town (the oldest parts are 13th-16th century along the river).  This area was really crowded yesterday evening but I pretty much had it to myself this morning.  It was lovely.

After some breakfast and a shower we headed over to the Casa de Musica and Wren took part in a toddler music class.  It was really cool but there was a little more storytelling than I expected which was great if you understand Portuguese.  Wren liked the singing parts and it was a fun break for her.
Wren is there among the chaos.
After a quick lunch we headed out to see some Roman ruins, really old stuff!  Most of it was from the 1st and 2nd century with a little bit of it predating the romans and a little bit from the 4th century that the next inhabitants built over the roman walls.  I was amazed at the mosaics.  They were incredibly detailed, intact and beautiful.  The area is called Conimbriga.  They are still actively excavating out there and have only uncovered roughly 10% of the town but it was huge.  I was amazed at how much there was.

This was probably a 10x12 foot mosaic. so cool!

This was the entrance to an aristocrats house.  The home appeared to be 3 bedrooms.

Cool arch

The columns were part of a market.

The remains of an aqueduct

This was a home of someone with a lot of money.  There were incredible mosaics all around a courtyard and the bedrooms and other areas of the house as well.  It was really incredible.

Wren found a rock, she was stoked.

The area that this took up was huge!

I'll finish off today with one more random thing we have enjoyed about Porto, there is some really interesting modern art randomly placed throughout the city.  Here are a couple that I thought were particularly photogenic.  They seem particularly cool among all of the old buildings.
