Switzerland 2018: Day 12
The kiddos needed an easy day with
regular naps and a little less adventure so we tried to give the what they
needed. I was up early with Flynt and
decided to try to run again. It was a beautiful road, a beautiful morning but
my left calf is still hating me. I almost
made it home (I was less than a block away and it seized up on me again) before
it got mad at me. I’ve been gimping
around all day on my calf (but my back is happier?). Bodies are weird. The point is it was a beautiful run and I
enjoyed myself very much and there were a ton of cows and sheep and goats along
the road and their bells were my music on my run instead of my MP3 player and
it was lovely.
I took a quick shower and ate
breakfast in the apartment and helped get the littles going for the day before
taking a brief adventure into Interlaken by myself. I wanted to do some shopping this trip and
this was pretty much my only chance. I
took the bus to the train station, barely make my train (I was half limping
half running to make it right before the doors closed. I had some language confusion with the touch
screen ticket thing and decided to get in line to have an actual person get me
a ticket. The wait was long due to a
large group of tourists in front of me asking too many questions. Anyhow, I made it!
I had a fun 2 hours puttering
around Interlaken by myself. I didn’t
really find what I was looking for. I
have had a hard time finding the interesting hand made items I like to take
home from vacations. It has been a
little frustrating to not have seen any handmade shops since I’ve been here,
but I still had a lot of fun.
Jeff stayed in the apartment and
got Flynt a good morning nap and played with Wren. They all met me back in Lauterbrunnen for
lunch. We then set off to see some
waterfalls. It was a little bit of
hiking and then we saw one that is still running pretty good. In spring there are 72 waterfalls. It seems like a lot of the smaller once dry
up in fall and even the larger ones get pretty little during a dry and warm
September. It was still fun and we all
enjoyed the walk. We headed back early
enough to get Flynt down for an afternoon nap so that we could, hopefully,
enjoy a nice dinner since we had reservations.
Dinner was amazing. We had two different types of Rosti which is
a Swiss potato dish that is sort of like a Swiss version of hash browns. Jeff ordered one with sausage and an onion
sauce and I had one with tomatoes and pesto and we switched half way though. Wren had spaghetti and was in heaven. We all split chocolate fondue for
dessert. Flynt was a bit of work to keep
happy but it was better than the last couple nights out. The poor guy just gets so tired by the end of
the day.
It was a very pleasant, low key
day and we are ready to hit the mountains again tomorrow for one last day of
Switzerland hiking!
