I started the day with a morning run. This is something I love to do on vacation
and even more so now that we have kids.
It gives me a little much needed “me” time, I get to cover a lot of
ground and (TIM?) it keeps my digestive system happy.

Such a nice morning. |

This covered bridge is called the Chapel bridge and was originally built in 1365. |

The bridge is unique because of the paintings in the eaves. The paintings are from the 1700's. There were originally 147. |
 |
Unfortunately, many of the paintings were destroyed in a fire in 1993. Only 30 of them have been fully restored. |

Our rooms are in the yellow building. |

Unfortunately, the Friday before our trip started, I hurt my
left calf and it was acting up so it was a bit more of a walk with running
intervals than a run with walking intervals as I prefer. I still covered about 5 miles and had fun
taking pictures with my phone before making a quick stop for food on my way
back to the apartment.
We decided to take a boat ride on lake Lucerne and see some
fun things while keeping it a little simpler with our wee ones. We took a noon boat cruise and packed a lunch
to eat as we floated along. Both Wren
and Flynt seemed to enjoy the trip but it seemed like they also would have
preferred an hour trip over the two hour one that we were on. It didn’t take too much effort to keep them
content for the whole journey but it wasn’t quite as easy as the first hour
where they were just content to watch the world float by. Jeff and I enjoyed the whole thing. It was a shame that it was super hazy that afternoon so the pictures didn't turn out all that great. It was still a nice thing to do.

Once we got off of the boat, we decided to visit a
park. Wren has been an excellent sport
about all of the things we wanted to do on vacation so we thought she should
have a turn. We found a park with a
playground. The Swiss play grounds are
fantastic. They seem to like to have
games that are also engineering problems.
This one had a super cool water table with blocks that can be pulled out
to allow water to flow to different parts of the table and control the
flow. There was also slides and climbing
equipment. One of the things that I like
is that it is actually possible for a creative kid to hurt themselves. I don’t want my kids to get hurt but it’s
nice that they learn what can and can’t hurt them. Here is what I mean by this: When Wren first started to pull herself up on
furniture, she would just trust fall and Jeff and I would run around behind her
and make sure she didn’t hurt herself on the hard wood floor. After a week or so of this we (I since I'm the
mean one) decided to just let her fall so she would learn. After a couple of falls, she learned how to
walk her hands down and no just fall down.
I think having a playground where kids learn their limits and what they
are comfortable with is great. There was
a little guy climbing over things and jumping down and doing nut rolls out of
the falls and he was about 4. It was
awesome.
Wren started a little timid at the playground but once she
got her bearings I walked off a little bit and she started playing with the
other kids. Flynt meanwhile, was rolling
around in his little play hexagon and loving life. Lots of people were intrigued as to what we
dumped our baby in.
We had a nice walk around, including going over the bridge as a family. This was tremendous fun as Wren is slightly obsessed with the story of the Three Billy Goats Gruff and I had to be a troll every time we went over a bridge and try and "gobble" her which involved tickling while saying "gobblegobblegobble" in a troll-ish voice. So cute and so much fun.
We also made a quick grocery store
stop before picking up some Turkish take-away to eat back at the
apartment. Kids were tired and it seemed
like a good option. It was delicious!
